Wicca

 What is WICCA?

Wicca is an alternative minority "religion" formed by witches, it originally began in the U.K. in the 1940s.

Wicca and Witchcraft are part of the larger contemporary pagan movement, which includes druids and heathens among others. All these spiritual paths, as we pagans refer to them, base their practices on pre-Christian religions and cultures.

If I were to explain to you the more... technical part of it it would be something among the lines of:

The religion differentiates itself from more mainstream religions, such as Christianity, by celebrating a Goddess as well as a God. In addition, Wicca lacks a formal institutional structure such as a church and puts more emphasis on ritual and direct spiritual experience than belief.

We are not believers, we are practitioners.

We do have one Golden RuleHarm none and do as you will,” and we really don't have a sacred book from which to take our beliefs. There are a few good reads out there, and I am planning on reviewing them here in the blog. But they are just... guidelines. Not really a supreme knowledge thing.

Wiccan saying: golden rule "and ye harm none, and do what ye will"

Most Wiccans practice alone and are free to develop their own unique practice. Which is also my case. I do not have a coven whatsoever, and I know very few witches in real life.

Some of us are nonetheless in regular contact, networking on the internet and congregating at large gatherings to conduct rituals, and learn about magical and spiritual practices from one another (which sadly, is not my case, as I prefer flying solo for that).

That would be the real, and brief, explanation behind the path of "Wicca". There are so many other fun and interesting paths that I wish to share with you all, but I will save them for another day.

Take care! xx
